The Prairies and the Great Plains
Die Prärie ist eine Gras - Ebene östlich der Rocky Mountains mit einer Länge von ca 4000 km und einer Breite von 1000 - 2000 km. Sie war bewohnt von ca 100 Millionen Bisons und hunderten Indianerstämmen. Canada / USA. Das ursprüngliche Prärie - Gras wurde durch Landwirtschaft, Rinderzucht und Verkehrswege zerstört.
Es gibt mittlerweile vereinzelte Renaturierungs - Projekte, regionale Schutzzonen und Nationalparks für Natur, Pflanzen und Tiere.
Der Verein Europa für Bisons will über diese Aktionen berichten, Informationen sammeln und geordnet auf die zwei Homepages stellen. Wir möchten uns als Europäer für den von uns angerichteten Schaden entschuldigen und uns an der Behebung beteiligen, indem wir die Natur, die Wildtiere, den Bison und die Prärie Indianer gezielt unterstützen.
Dafür sind die Möglichkeiten der digitalen Welt perfekt. Sie bietet weltweite Kommunikation und Information durch Homepages, You Tube Videos und Social Media. So kann sich auch jeder einfach beteiligen und mithelfen.

The Bison: Treasure and Pride of the Prairies
Der Bison ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der biologischen Vielfalt der Prärie. Er trägt zum Erhalt des ursprünglichen Präriegrases bei und war für die Präriestämme die wichtigste Lebensgrundlage und von großer spiritueller und traditioneller Bedeutung.
Mit der Ausrottung des Bisons haben die Europäer auch das Indianer - Problem "gelöst" und Platz für Landwirtschaft und Viehzucht geschaffen. Die meisten der Farmen, die durch den Homestead Act von 1862 entstanden sind, wurden schon lange aufgegeben. Auf diesem leeren Indianer - Land hätten heute wieder Bisons und Wildtiere Platz.

Kankakee Sands Indiana: Since 1996, The Nature Conservancy and its partners have been working to restore a significant slice of prairie at http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/... in northwest Indiana. Nearly 6,500 acres have been planted with 600 native plants. "The Bison is a conservation tool of the prairies eco system. We want to bring back this native graser".

Ein knackig frischer, wolkenverhangener Morgen in einem entlegenen Tal am östlichen Rand des Banff National Park. Auf dem Boden stehen fünf speziell ausgerüstete Frachtcontainer, in denen es leicht rappelt. Jeder Bison trägt einen Zahlenchip am Ohr und ein spezielles Halsband. ........ Für alle Beteiligten ist dies ein historischer und sehr emotionsgeladener Tag. Eigentlich beginnt die Geschichte dieser Bisons aber schon am Nachmittag zuvor im rund 400 Kilometer entfernten Elk Island National Park. ....... In Wahrheit beginnt die Geschichte der Bisons aber Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts, als europäische Siedler Jagd auf die Tiere machten und die Gattung nahezu ausrotteten. Innerhalb einer Generation wurde der Präriebison – der zu mehreren Dutzend Millionen auf dem Kontinent lebte und für zahlreiche Ureinwohnerstämme von zentraler praktischer und spiritueller Bedeutung war – zu kaum mehr als einer blassen Erinnerung dezimiert. ...... English summary
The prairie is a grass plain east of the Rocky Mountains with a length of about 4000 km and a width of 1000 - 2000 km. It was inhabited by about 100 million bisons and hundreds of Native American tribes. Canada / USA. The original prairie grass was destroyed by agriculture, cattle breeding and traffic routes. Each bison wears a number chip on the ear and a special collar. ........ This is a historic and very emotional day for all involved. Actually, the history of these bison begins the afternoon before in the Elk Island National Park, about 400 kilometers away. .......
